Border Road Organisation(BRO) has completed the cutting work of 61 km long border road from Munsiyari to Milam as some local youth reached Milam village on the Indo-China border driving their Jeep from Munsiyari a day before.

“The team led by Gajendra Singh Jangpangi alias Gangu, became first to reach Milam by a jeep e from Munsiyari though the road is yet to be opened officially,” said Jagdish Rawat, president of Hotel Association,Munsiyari

“It took us over 5 hours to reach Milam village from Munsiyari. The road is now fully cut and black topping work has also been completed by BRO on the 24 km long portion of road while black topping work on the remaining 37 km long road is in progress,” claimed Gajendra Singh Jangpangi, former student leader and original resident of Johar valley presently residing at Thal town of Pithoragarh district.

The construction work on the Munsiyari- Milan road that is yet to be completed, started in 2010.

“More trekkers now will be able to visit Milam from Munsiyari once the road opens officially,” said the Hotel Association chief of Munsiyari

According to Munsiyari Hotel Association sources, a total of 742 trekkers visited Milam till October 25 this year.” The trek has been closed after October 25 due to snowfall on the way to Munsiyari,” said Jagdish Rawat.

The road has been almost completed by BRO working in sub- zero temperature and facing hard rocks at Mapang, Bugdiyar, Laspa and Nahardevi portions of the project. “Besides working in sub zero temperature to complete the work in time, we have  faced shortage of labourers as most of our labour force left the work during Corona epidemic period from 2019 to 2022,” said a BRO official at Munsiyari.
