Capacitor Bank (PCB) by UPCL to improve power quality
Dehradun , Dec 1
Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has been using latest technology based equipment to strengthen the power distribution system in the uneven geographical structure and adverse weather conditions of Uttarakhand state.
UPCL has made every possible effort to strengthen the power sector further as per the directions of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami . Due to geographical conditions, at some places in the state, the problem of poor power factor (PPF) and low voltage persists mainly due to long spans in hilly areas, due to which there is a possibility of deterioration in the power supply situation.
To overcome the problem, UPCL has been working on the installation of Capacitor Bank (PCB) for a total of 101 transformers of a total of 61 33/11 KV substations across the state. Anil Kumar Yadav, Managing Director,UPCL informed that the establishment of capacitor bank in the power system network will be a ‘Large Scale’ initiative. The work of establishment of capacitor bank across the state by UPCL is proposed to be completed by March 2025 and successful implementation of the scheme will further improve the quality of electricity supply to the consumers. Along with this, the efficiency of irrigation and drinking water projects in the state will also increase due to improvement in the quality of voltage. The establishment of capacitor bank will give relief to the power consumers from the problem of low voltage, improve Power Factor (PFR), help in reducing the power consumption automatically and the distribution system will become more robust as outages will reduce and speed will decrease. It would further solve the problem of faults in the lines and reduce pressure on the transformers.
