In a daring rescue, man rescued from near Pindari glacier at night

In a first of of its’ kind rescue operation in Bageshwar district, Vijay Danu, a 24 years old resident of Khati village of the district was rescued safely by State Disaster Management rescue (SDMR) team from a 300 feet ditch. The youth had fell into the dirtch when he had gone there to inspect under construction Pindari glacier trek route construction work at 12000 feet high ridge that is near to famous Pindari glacier
“After initial treatment at Kapkot CHC, Vijay Danu (24), has now been referred to higher center at Haldwani as he has received head injuries,” said Shikha Suyal, District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) of Bageshwar.
Vijay had remained in the ditch for over 6 hours after he fell into during morning hours, said the rescue team incharge Rajendra Singh.
According to DDMO Bageshwar, the information of Vijay Danu falling into a deep gorge at Jwarpani, reached the SDRF team at 3.24 pm on Friday and the team left for the spot immediately and reached there after crossing a 18 km long track amidst chilling cold wave.” But the bravery, expertise and commitment of rescue team led by SDRF Sub-Inspector Rajendra Singh was exemplary who not only rescue Vijay Danu but took him on a stretcher again tracking 18 km through, tough and treacherous route from Jwarpani to Khati under extreme cold conditions. Vijay Danu was then taken by 108 emergency vehicle to Kapkot for further treatmen,” said the DDMO, Bageshwar.
“Though our SDRF teams have run several rescue operations in the district, but it was a first operation of its’ kind in which a person was rescued live, by running the operation at night at height of 12000 feet in chilling weather,” said Shikha Suyal.
