‘Shiv Dham’ to be constructed at Gunji

‘Shiv Dham’, a holy place in the name of Lord Shiva at Gunji, the entering point of Kailash Mansarowar and Adi Kailash yatra route will be constructed soon as a sum of Rs 17.86 crore has been sanctioned by Government of India under its’ ‘Swadesh Darshan -2 programme’.
“Under the initial phase, two sets of single rooms and 4 sets of double rooms will be developed. This lodging facility will be surrounded by a Trishul plaza, having a high Trishul (trident) of Lord Shiva and a visitor center shop of local souvenir goods and a ‘Nandi Dwar’, the entrance,” said Kriti Chandra Arya, District Tourist Officer (DTO), Pithoragarh.
According to Arya, the entire construction of ‘Shiv Dham’, will be on 34 hectare land at Gunji. “We have been allocated a total of 25.63 hectares of land while we are yet to receive 8.50 hectares of land in vicinity of the project,” he said.
According to DTO, the project will be constructed by Askot division of PWD. “We have been informed by construction agency to have invited tenders for the project and work on the ambitious project will probably start in next 2 months,” said the DTO.
The ‘Shiv Dham’ project at Gunji, though already planned by tourism department of Uttarakhand, got momentum after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the region in October 2023.” The Shiv Dham ,first of its kind in high Himalayan region, will facilitate devotees of Lord Shiva who visit this region either to solemnise Kailash Mansarowar Yatra or Adi Kailash yatra,” said tourist officer.
