Villagers construct bridges for connectivity during monsoon Badri Dutt kasniyal

To maintain contacts with another helmets of the village, during monsoon months in the absence of bridges over swollen rivulets, the villagers of Bashani village of Bhaiskot region of the district, have started constructing a temporary wooden and iron bridge at their own cost.
“The 4 wooden bridges, that used to link all 7 helmets of village with each other during monsoon months, have gone swept away in 2016 rain disaster and after that no bridge could be constructed by government or administration despite repeated requests by villagers.”said Jeewan Danu, a resident of the village.
According to Danu, after the bridges were washed in 2016, the villagers every year construct 4 wooden bridges at 4 places to link all 7 helmets of village in monsoon months as well.”it has become dificult for school going children of the village to reach their schools if the nullah becomes flooded after heavy rains “said Ajay Dasauni, a BJYM leader in the village.
“This year as well, the village youths have initiated to construct a temporary bridges on Bashani rivulet, using wooden logs and outdated electricity poles.”said Dasauni.
“The Tajam sub division of district witnesses highest rainfall rate during monsoon, and the flooded rivulet in our village not only delinks, all 700 population of the village with each other but also affects 2 other villages of the are, we need wooden bridges every year before monsoon untill the iron bridge is constructed.”said Jeewan Danu.
Meanwhile, the villagers of Kathil hemlet of Budam village of Champawat district have requested the administration to construct a temporary bridge on Sarada river of Budam village as in absence of the bridge the villagers of other helmets of the villagers would not be able to reach polling booth for panchayat polls.”It becomes risky to cross the river during monsoon.”said Shivraj Singh, leader of delegation that presented a memorandum to SDM of purnagiri sub division at Tanakpur today.
SDM Aakash joshi informed that an amount of Rs 28 lakh is sanctioned by PWD to construct bridge on Sarada river of the village.”the bridge will soon be constructed.”said the SDM.
