‘Jhyangmothon’, half marathon to be held at Dharchula on Jan 8, 2026

The 10th edition of ‘Jhyangmothon’, or half marathon of 21 km, will be organised on January 8, next year in Dharchula. The event will be sponsored by ‘Namami Gange’ programme and Uttarakhand tourism development board and organised by ‘Rung Kalyan Sanstha’ of Dharchula, Yogesh Garbiyal, an ace mountaineer and coordinator of event announced.

“Over 300 runners, including runners from neighbouring country Nepal, Army, para- military forces have so far registered for the event,”said Yogesh Garbiyal.

The event has been divided, besides 21 km long half marathon, in to10km and 15 km in open and above 40 km category in order to give representation to all categories including women and senior citizens. “Besides awarding a sum of Rs 15000 to the half marathon winner, we will give awards to top 5 athletes of the competition, “said Garbiyal.

According to the organisers, the theme of the ‘Jhyangmothon’, is to save glaciers, mountains, culture and to ensure a drug free society besides protecting fragile Himalaya’s eco system to promote a healthy society and respectfully life style.” The programme also aims to blend sports with sustainability, culture, social awareness and to strengthen the identity of border town of Dharchula as a hub of responsible mountain sports, “said Garbiyal.

“A post event route cleaning drive will also be organised after the event to give message of cleanliness,” said the organiser.
