Nepalese ambassador inspects new Indo-Nepal bridge

Dr Shankar Prasad Sharma, ambassador of Nepal to India, today visited the motor bridge being constructed on River Kali at Indo- Nepal border at Charchum village of Dharchula sub- division of the district and expressed hope to begin the commercial activities from the bridge soon.
“The bridge is likely to begin commercial activities, soon and is second motor bridge situated in Uttarakhand state after Banbasa bridge in Champawat district connecting Nepal that would strengthen Indo- Nepal relations.” said Dr Shankar Prasad Sharma, Nepalese ambassador to India, after inspection of the bridge.
The Nepalese ambassador was accompanied by, Dr Surendra Thapa, deputy chief of mission,(DCM), Ambika Joshi and Prakash Malla, both diplomats, Ravindra Jung thapa and Bheesh Prasad Bhuryel, aides of Nepalese ambassador.
Arun, the executive engineer of state PWD, which has completed construction of 110 meters span bridge with 10.50 meters width and 7.5 meters carriage way of the bridge, said that the 150 meters long link road to bridge from highway could be completed by March 2026, while another bridge link road will be completed by end of this month.
” After the completion of these bridge link roads from both sides, from Indian as well as Nepalese side and construction of sheds for security and customs, the project will be ready for commissioning,” said Arun, the Executive Engineer of PWD Askot division.
Pithoragarh District Magistrate Asish Bhatgai has in a meeting last week, instructed the construction agency PWD to construct temporary sheds for security and customs to facilitate opening of the motor bridge as soon as possible.
Indian authorities are constructing bridge link roads of both sides, from Indian and Nepalese sides, said Jitendra Verma, SDM, Dharchula.
The foundation of this second motor bridge at Indo- Nepal border in the state of Uttarakhand, was laid by state Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in the year 2022.
