Importance of interdisciplinary research and collaboration emphasised at International Conference on Biosciences at SBSU
Dehradun, March 13
Sardar Bhagwan Singh University inaugurated its two-day International Conference titled “Biosciences Beyond Boundaries: Healthcare, Bioeconomy and Sustainable Well-being.” The conference, being held in hybrid mode, has brought together eminent scientists, academicians, industry experts, and researchers from across the country and abroad to deliberate on emerging developments in biosciences.
The inaugural session began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Prof. Kumud Malhotra, Convener of the Conference, welcomed the distinguished guests and participants and highlighted the enthusiastic response received for the event, noting the wide participation of delegates from diverse academic and research institutions.
Prof. (Dr.) J. Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of SBSU, in his address emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary research and collaboration in addressing contemporary global challenges related to healthcare, agriculture, and environmental sustainability. He observed that conferences of this nature provide valuable platforms for knowledge exchange and the development of meaningful academic collaborations.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Meenu Singh, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS, Rishikesh, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In her address, Dr. Singh highlighted the growing importance of research and innovation in strengthening healthcare systems and addressing emerging public health challenges. She stressed the need for closer collaboration among academic institutions, research organizations, and healthcare providers to translate scientific knowledge into practical solutions for society.
Dr. Harender Singh Bisht, Director of CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum, attended the function as the Guest of Honour and appreciated the initiative of SBSU in organizing an international conference that brings together experts from diverse domains of biosciences. He emphasized the importance of research-driven innovation and the growing role of science and technology in promoting sustainable development.
A significant highlight of the inaugural session was the release of the Conference Souvenir and the launch of the SBSU Research Journal, “Innovations in Biomedical and Allied Health Research.” The journal aims to provide a platform for disseminating quality research and encouraging scholarly contributions from researchers and academicians.
Shri S. P. Singh, Chairman, GBSS, and Prof. Gauravdeep Singh, President, SBSU, felicitated the distinguished guests as a mark of appreciation. The conference also featured keynote and expert lectures by eminent scientists. Prof. Serge Savary, Director Research INRAe (France) and Chief Editor, Food Security (Springer) spoke on the theme of Global Plant Health, emphasizing its significance for food security and ecological balance. Prof. (Dr.) Ali Irani, HOD, Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine, Nanavati Max Hospital delivered an insightful lecture on the importance of healthy and evidence-based clinical practices, drawing from his vast professional experience.
Lead speakers invited from various parts of the country set the tone for each technical session through expert talks. These sessions were followed by oral and poster presentations, providing researchers and scholars an opportunity to present their work and engage in academic discussions. The conference will continue with several technical sessions and deliberations aimed at strengthening collaboration and advancing research in the field of biosciences.
