Second phase of ‘Adi Kailash Yatra’ deferred

The second phase of the ‘Adi Kailash Yatra 2026’, scheduled to begin on September 15, has been deferred by the administration due to adverse weather conditions and road blockages in the region.
“The process of issuing Inner Line Permits (ILPs) to ‘Adi Kailash’ pilgrims, which was scheduled to begin on September 15, has been postponed to September 19. However, this is only a tentative date. The permits will be issued from September 19 only if weather conditions improve in the region,” said Ashish Joshi, SDM of Dharchula.
According to the SDM, the decision to defer the yatra was taken after a Bailey bridge on the Dharchula-Gunji road at Kulagar was washed away for the second time within a fortnight.
“As the BRO has started reconstruction of the bridge and the Army has developed an alternative crossing route at the site to facilitate movement to the higher Himalayan valleys, we will resume the yatra only after receiving assurance that conditions are safe from both weather and transportation points of view,” the SDM said.
