Second phase of ‘Adi Kailash Yatra’ begins after weather improves

The second phase of the ‘Adi Kailash Yatra’ began on Sunday, with the Dharchula administration starting to issue inner-line permits to pilgrims who had gathered in the border town from different parts of the country.

Ashish Joshi, SDM Dharchula and the Yatra Officer, said the administration decided to resume the issuance of permits after weather conditions improved and the road to Gunji was restored.

“After the weather has calmed down and the road to Gunji has become smooth, we have decided to start issuing inner-line permits to ‘Adi Kailash’ pilgrims from today,” the SDM said.

According to Joshi, the second phase of the yatra is expected to continue until November, or until snowfall in the higher Himalayan region begins to disrupt normal activities.

“We have more than 100 inner-line permits to issue today. Pilgrims receiving the permits will start their journey towards the higher Himalayan region immediately,” he said.

The second phase of the ‘Adi Kailash Yatra’ was originally scheduled to begin on September 15 but had to be deferred following the sudden collapse of a Bailey bridge at Kulagar on the Dharchula-Gunji road.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) subsequently reconstructed the bridge and cleared debris from the road, enabling the administration to resume the issuance of inner-line permits and restart the yatra.
