More than 700 pilgrims travelling to Adi Kailash had to be stopped at the Dharchula base camp and other places enroute on Friday after a heavy landslide blocked the road at Mangti nullah last night, sources said.

“While the BRO had cleared the heavy snow deposits between Kuti and Jolingkong on the Adi Kailash route two days ago, allowing vehicles to reach the Lord Shiva temple at Adi Kailash, this fresh landslide last night has suddenly disrupted the pilgrimage,” said Dhan Singh Bisht, in-charge of the KMVN base camp at Dharchula.

According to Bisht, until two days ago, some groups of pilgrims had managed to have darshan of the sacred Adi Kailash peak from near Jolingkong, as the eight-kilometre stretch beyond the point was covered with heavy snow.

“Despite the challenges posed by the weather, the enthusiasm among the pilgrims remains high, and the process of issuing inner-line permits has also resumed,” Bisht said.
