Intermittent rainfall, snow bring back cold wave conditions in Uttarakhand

Intermittent rainfall and snow fall in Uttarakhand since past 24 hours have brought back shivering cold in the spring season as higher valleys are covered in snow resulting into closure of some roads.
” The intermittent rain followed by snowfall from last 24 hours in Munsiyari town has resulted in to one inch snowfall in Munsiyari town and over 1 to 2 feet in surrounding peaks of Kalamuni, Rajrambha, Panchachuli and Khalia Top,” said Puranik Pandey, a resident of Munsiyari town.
The snowfall and rains have resulted in the closure of Thal to Munsiyari road, the main road to the town.”This is third such snowfall of this year, it will help farmers and orchards owners leading to good flowering this season besides enhancing natural water sources of the region,” claimed Pandey
The tourists in Munsiyari town have safe passage from Madkoti road as that route is open for traffic.

In Darma and Vyans valleys of Dharchula sub-division, rains and snowfall from past 18 hours, has resulted into 2 feet of snowfall in Gunji village of Vyans valley while surrounding hills of the valley witnessed three feet of snowfall.” While Gunji at nearly 9000 feet height has witnessed – 11 degree Celsius of temperature (minus 11 degree) Dharchula town witnessed 37 mm of rains from last 24 hours.”It has resulted disturbances in road construction work being done at border near China,” said a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) officer.
Lower valleys of Kumaon region are shivering in cold wave as the rains are continuing from last 24 hours.”The level of rivers like Kali and Gori has started rising from this morning and we have cautioned villagers about it,” said Bhupendra Mahar, District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO), Pithoragarh.
