Government should not protect hate mongers

Government should not protect hate-mongers and rioters: Opposition parties and public organizations raised their voices across the state                                                              Dehradun, Oct 25                                                After Uttarkashi violence, opposition parties and public organizations organized programs across the state today alleged that a few people and organizations are continuously spreading violence and hatred in the state. People have started to feel that they are being protected by the government. These few people have given hate speeches, attacked private and government properties, threw stones, beat up people, and chased people out of their houses and shops, but neither anti-riot law nor the correct sections of criminal laws are applied on them. Apart from Uttarkashi, such incidents have come to light in Kirtinagar, Dehradun, Nandnagar, Tharali, Mussoorie, Berinag, Gauchar and other places in the last two months. Ignoring all these things, the ruling party is trying to show a conspiracy by giving a religious color to a few alleged incidents, baselessly calling them some kind of “jihad”. Even in this environment, many police and administrative officials have taken action at their level with impartiality, which is commendable but it is not enough.  A memorandum addressed to Chief Minister was submitted at various places across the state to administrative officials. The  memorandum demanded that the government should immediately stop giving protection to the responsible persons; as per the decisions of the Supreme Court, strict action should be taken against every person and organization responsible for the violent incidents; where people have been threatened to vacate, the affected people should be given security; as per the decisions of the Supreme Court of 2018, arrangements should be made to stop mob violence and hate speeches across the state; “One Stop Center” should be opened in every block for the safety of women; and steps should be taken on a war footing for the real issues of the state, such as forest rights law, land law, poor people should get houses and rights in cities, improvement in welfare schemes, and employment. Programs were held today in Ramnagar, Chamiyala, Uttarkashi, Tehri, Munsiyari, Nainital, Garud, Dehradun, Joshimath, Karanprayag and other places. On Saturday, more are scheduled in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar. In Dehradun, India Alliance’s state vice-president of Congress Puran Singh Rawat, city president Jaswinder Gogi, senior leader Yakub Siddiqui and other activists; SP national secretaries Dr. SN Sachan and Atul Sharma; Aam Aadmi Party’s Uma Sisodia; and CPI national council member Samar Bhandari were present. Uttarakhand Mahila Manch’s Kamala Pant and Nirmala Bisht; Uttarakhand Insaniyat Manch’s Trilochan Bhatt; Chetna Andolan’s Shankar Gopal, Rajendra Shah, Munna Kumar, Arun, and Rehmat; and BGVS’s Swati Negi were present. The memorandum was handed over to the Dehradun District Magistrate.                                                        *Memorandum enclosed.* To, Hon’ble Chief Minister Government of Uttarakhand Sir, Uttarakhand is the land where Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali, Shri Dev Suman, Jayanand Bharti, Girda and other heroes fighting for democracy, freedom and humanity were born, from whom the whole world has drawn inspiration. But now, in this very Uttarakhand, under a criminal conspiracy, a few people and organizations are continuously attacking innocent people by targeting the entire community on the pretext of alleged crimes at various places. These rioters have given hate speeches, beaten up people, attacked private and government properties. People have also had to flee from their places. Within just two months, such incidents have come to light in Kirtinagar, Dehradun, Nandnagar, Tharali, Mussoorie, Berinag, Uttarkashi, Gauchar and other places. Sir, the public has started feeling that this campaign is getting protection from the government. Apart from some FIRs being filed, no legal action is being taken against these people. On the contrary, the ruling party is trying to portray a few alleged incidents as a conspiracy by giving them a religious colour and baselessly calling them some kind of “jihad”. Till date, the government has not been able to make public any evidence of these alleged conspiracies. On the contrary, in towns like Purola, it became clear that the so-called ‘love jihad’ incident did not take place. Yet no action has been taken against the people who carried out violent criminal campaigns in that entire area in 2023. Sir, people in the state are agitating for the status of women, land laws, forest rights, employment and economic security. Instead of taking any action on all these, the ruling party is engaged in hate propaganda to create fear among the majority community. This is against the culture of our state and the Constitution of the country. We would like to appreciate those police and administration officials who have taken steps impartially even in this environment. But until the government does not take legal action on the entire campaign, these efforts will be insufficient. Therefore, we want that: – Strict action should be taken against every person and organization responsible for violent communal incidents. In the areas where there has been a threat of evacuation, the affected people should be given security as per the orders of the Supreme Court. – Immediately stop giving protection to a few individuals and organizations should be made. – As per the 2018 Supreme Court decisions, arrangements should be made to stop mob violence and hate speeches across the state. For the safety of women, a “One Stop Center” should be opened in every block. – The agricultural land of the state should get protection through land law and the forest rights of the public should be recognized under the Forest Rights Act; urban laborers should get houses and rights; welfare schemes should be improved; and steps should be taken on a war footing for employment.
