13 dead, 20 reportedly missing in rain and flood havoc in Doon

Heavy incessant rains and a cloudburst in Sahastradhara area of Dehradun resulted in swollen rivers and rivulets leading to death of 13 persons in various incidents in various parts of Dehradun district today. More than 20 persons are reportedly missing in the floods which inundated low lying areas near the rivers in different parts of Dehradun valley.
Fourteen labourers in a tractor trailer who were traying to cross Assan river near Parval village on the outskirts of Dehradun city were washed away in the flood. One of them have been found injured while others are feared dead. The famous Shiva Temple at Tapkeshwar was also flooded causing damage to the temple property.
A large number of hotels, shops, commercial and residential buildings were damaged as two persons went missing following a cloudburst and resultant deluge in Sahastradhara area.

Following incessant rains since last night, all the rivers namely Tamsa, Tons, Song, Bindal, Rispana and Assan were in spate breaching banks, damaging roads, culverts and bridges. The bridge near Uttaranchal university was washed off affecting the traffic on the busy Dehradun-Vikasnagar road. Similar reports of damage due to flood and landslides have come from Maldevta, Sahaspur, Mussoorie, Premnagar and Rishikesh.
