Prominent Sikh religious preacher and respected Khalsa Panth figure Professor Sarabjit Singh Tunda honoured Taranjit Singh Tony with a Siropa and Kirpan at Gurdwara Dablehar in R.S. Pura, recognising his contributions to the Sikh community.
Addressing the gathering, *Prof. Sarabjit Singh Tunda delivered a strong message on the preservation and promotion of the Punjabi language*, urging the Sikh community not to depend solely on the government for safeguarding its mother tongue.
“People should not wait for the government to include Punjabi as an official language. Every Punjabi-speaking family must take responsibility for teaching its children how to read, write and speak Punjabi. Our mother tongue can only survive and flourish when we practise and promote it ourselves,” Tunda said.
He emphasised that while efforts for the official recognition of Punjabi must continue, the responsibility of preserving the language rests equally with the community.
*“If we truly love our mother tongue, we must ensure that Punjabi is taught in every household. Government recognition is important, but the survival of our language depends on our own commitment,”* he added.
Prof. Sarabjit Singh Tunda further urged people to promote Punjabi in their everyday lives, stressing that nameplates outside homes and shops should also be written in Punjabi, and people should make their signatures in Punjabi. He emphasised that such small but meaningful steps can help preserve the mother tongue, strengthen its cultural identity, and encourage future generations to learn, read and write Punjabi without depending solely on government initiatives.
Meanwhile, Taranjit Singh Tony expressed gratitude to Prof. Tunda for honouring him with the traditional Siropa and Kirpan, describing the recognition as a blessing and a responsibility to continue serving the Sikh Panth.
Tony also spoke about the role of the Sikh Nowjawan Sabha in strengthening community values and promoting Sikh traditions. He advocated giving preference to Amritdhari Sikh candidates in community elections and stressed the importance of maintaining Sikh religious discipline, including abstaining from liquor and other intoxicants.
Reaffirming his commitment to the Sikh community and Punjabi language, Tony said that collective efforts were essential to protect the cultural, linguistic and religious identity of future generations.
Expressing his gratitude, Tony said, *“Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh. Waheguru Ji Mehar Banayi Rakhey.”*
Earlier, Ravinder Singh, President of the Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Sainik Colony, along with members of the management team and the Sangat, also honoured Taranjit Singh Tony with a Siropa and Kirpan in recognition of his association with the Sikh community and his commitment to Sikh values and traditions.
