Despite freezing cold pilgrims continue to line up for ‘Adi Kailash’

The flow of pilgrims continued to pour in to have ‘darshan’ of ‘Adi Kailash’ mountain (14500 feet), despite freezing cold which has resulted in 90 percent part of ‘Parwati Kund’ frozen.

“The process of issuing of inner line permits to visit ‘Adi Kailash’, will be ceased only after heavy snowfall begins in that region. We have issued over 30 inner line passes in last two days making the total number of pilgrims to 36461 this season who visited ‘Adi Kailash’, “said Jitendra Singh, SDM of Dharchula.

According to villagers of Rongkong and Kuti, situated near the ‘Adi Kailash’, the water of both of lakes, ‘Gauri kund’ and ‘Parwati kund’ has freezed. ” While the day temperature is not exceeding 7 degree celsius during dawn to dusk, the night temperature of ‘Adi Kailash’ region is down to 5 to 10 degree below zero deggress celsius during night time, “said  Nagendra Singh Kutiyal, Gram pradhan of Kuti village.

“It seems the winter has come early in this part of Himalayan, as the lakes used to freeze generally from the mid of December,” said the Gram pradhan.

“The temple of Shiva – Parwati, situated at ‘Adi Kailash’ is already  closed on  November 5, for winter this year,” said Gram pradhan of Kuti.

“Most of the home stay owners and mule, horse owners have returned to lower valleys, only a few home stay owners are staying there to cater to the visiting pilgrims,” said SDM.

The Mansarowar lake, inside Tibet at holy Kailash peak freezes at same time as mentioned by Swami Pranawanand, writer of the book, ‘Kailash Mansarowar, who visited the region several times from the year 1936.”It was Monday, December 28 in 1936 when the waters in the Mansarowar lake froze into milk white ice all round,” says Swami Pranawanand in his book.

Another Indian saint, Swami Vikash Giri, who visited Kailash Mansarowar in the year 1999, writes in his book, ‘Sumeru Parwat’ that from December mid the Mansarowar lake started freezing from middle part of it.
