On day of successful Silkyara tunnel rescue operations, 6th World Congress on Disaster management starts at Graphic Era University

On the day 41 workers trapped in the under construction Silkyara road tunnel on Yamunotri highway in Uttarakashi district for the past 17 days were rescued, The 6th World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM) started at Graphic Era Deemed University today. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the four day event. Disaster management experts from more than 70 countries are taking part in Congress who would deliberate on various issues related with disasters in more than 70 sessions during the next four days.
, The 6th World Congress on Disaster Management (WCDM) is a unique initiative of Disaster Management Initiative and Convergence Society (DMICS) to bring researchers, policy makers and practitioners from around the world in the same platform to discuss various challenging issues of disaster risk management. The mission of WCDM is to promote interaction of science, policy and practices to enhance understanding of risks and advance actions for reducing risks and building resilience to disasters.
Graphic Era Group of Institutions’ Chairman Dr. Kamal Ghanshala expressed his gratitude towards state Government and said that tunnel collapse in Silkyara and the historic rescue carried out to bring out the trapped workers safely after 17 day, today, will play an important role globally from scientific point of view. He further said that this successful rescue operation will also be a torch bearer for any future rescue operation in case of disasters. He hoped that further research work would be undertaken in the light of the present successful rescue operation. Earlier, Prof. (Dr.) Kamal Ghanshala and Rakhi Ghanshala, Vice Chairperson of Graphic Era Group of Institutions welcomed Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
