Due to migration from villages leading to complete unavailability of students, a total of 183 government schools have been closed down in Pithoragarh district in last three years as per Ashok Kumar Jukaria, Chief Education Officer of Pithoragarh district.
“Besides closing these 158 primary and 25 junior schools, we have a total 120 schools in the district which have only one teacher who caters to the classes from 1 to 8th all alone,” said Jukaria.
“Besides these one teacher schools, the district has over 445 primary and 20 junior high schools which have only one student there,” said Jukaria.
According to Chief Education Officer attributed this situation to mass migration from interior villagers to nearby towns or in metros in search of good education for their wards.” As Pithoragarh district indicated over 41 percent migration from villages according to State Migration Commission reports, the direct effects can be seen in government education institutes,” claimed Jukaria.
Efforts are on to provide quality education in government schools to minimise migration from villages, he further claimed.
