‘Naman’ mental health project to be started in Munsiyari

Pithoragarh, April 21

A five member team of ‘Naman’ project, a pilot project on mental health mapping of the country, today reached Pithoragarh on it’s way to Munsiyari, the second ‘Taluka’ taken under the nation-wide pilot project being run by ‘Ashrya Hasta’ trust of Benguluru in Karnataka.

“The project, launched in Belur taluka of Hasan district of Karnataka in 2023, has Munsiyari sub-division of Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand state as it’s second selected taluka under the pilot project. The project will run for next three years,” said Mohit Shukla, a liaison officer with the group.

According to Shukla, the project is being run by trust in collaboration with NIMHANS Bengluru, AIIMS Rishikesh, Uttarakhand and Karnataka government.”In the first phase, resource mapping of local conditions causing deterioration in mental health of particular locality will be taken up to further the project,” said Dr Sneha Gupta, an expert with the project.

According to Dr Gupta, to test feasibility of mental health under the model project, four stages of promotive, preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative stages will be  taken up in the project.”It will make multi pronged approach to promote mental health in general public,” said Dr Sneha Gupta, of NAMAN project.

According to team members, the beginning of project in Munsiyari sub-division (Taluka) of Uttarakhand will initiate with local resources building, recruitment and training of staff, and situational analysing under which mental health of concerned people would be assessed.”All works under project will be done according to the parameters set by human development index of the country,” said Dr Gupta.
