Four ‘Chholiya’ dancers including two brothers dead in road mishap

Pithoragarh, April 22

Four persons, all ‘Chholiya’ dancers of Chamoli village near Pithoragarh town, including two brothers died while four others were injured seriously, after their Max vehicle fell into deep gorge at Andali bend near their village at 3 am, this morning.

According to official information, four ‘Chholiya’ dancers, namely Kailash Ram (48), Angad Ram(37), Pawan Ram(43) and  driver of the vehicle Ajay Ram,(38), died on the spot while Jagdish (49), Himanshu (19), Priyanshu (18) and Rajendra (42) were  seriously injured. ‘Chholiya’ is a traditional dance form of Kumoan region of Uttarakhand.

“The incident took place early morning at 3 am and since the place of accident is remote, the local administration received the information at 5.30 am ,” said Ashish Kumar Mishra, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Pithoragarh.

The rescue teams comprising State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF), revenue police and 108 emergency service vehicle were rushed to the spot.”We have extracted all the bodies and injured have been admitted in the local hospital,” said the SDM.

According to Vinod Rawat, a villager of Chamali village, the team of ‘Chholiya’ dancers was returning home after performing at a marriage party in Barabe village.
