Political parties, public organisations seek strict action against perpetrators of violence, arson and hate speeches

Dehradun , Sept 28

A delegation of various political and social organizations including left parties, AAP and UKD sought strict action against culprits involved in the violence, arson and hate speeches on September 26 in Dehradun city irrespective of the religion, caste or political affiliation of the accused. The delegation called upon Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajai Singh and submitted a memorandum in this regard on Saturday.

The delegation charged that some organizations and individuals are constantly trying to incite communal violence and there is urgent need to take strict legal action against them for all communal and hate crimes. The delegation welcomed the swift action taken by the police in the incident that took place on the night of 26 September at Dehradun railway station.

The delegation lamented that despite registration of cases against people who are close to the ruling party no further action has been taken against such element for indulging in hate speech to spreading false propaganda, vandalism and damage to private properties to stone pelting across the state. The delegation members said that Section 197(1)(b) of the new Indian Penal Code and the sections of the Act made in the name of riots are rarely applied against these people, while the present BJP government keeps boasting  about these new laws.

The delegation members regretted that the main Clock Road road of the city was jammed for pressurizing the police for releasing the alleged accused involved in stone pelting at railway station. They further said that it was  highly objectionable  and deplorable that the ruling party leaders forcibly release someone from the police station using the power of the mob and political power. The delegation members were of the view that such action would undermine the fair implementation of rule of law in this peaceful city and state. SSP Dehradun assured the delegation that legal action will be taken against accused persons impartially and no one will be spared.

The delegation comprised Kamala Pant of Uttarakhand Mahila Manch, State Secretary of CPI (ML) Indresh Maikhuri, National Council Member of CPI Samar Bhandari, Uma Sisodia of Aam Aadmi Party, former Bar Council President Razia Baig, Shankar Gopal of Chetna Andolan, Latafat Hussain of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal, NN Pandey of Swaraj Abhiyan, Trilochan Bhatt of Uttarakhand Insaaniyat Manch,  and State Secretary of AITUC Ashok Sharma, and other representatives.
