AI Must Become a Tool for Nature Conservation

Dehradun, July 25: Researchers, academicians and experts at Graphic Era University said that the potential of Artificial Intelligence should not remain limited to solving complex problems and improving efficiency. It should also be used as an effective tool for conserving nature and natural resources.

At the valedictory ceremony of the two days International Conference on Sustainable Computational Technologies held today at Graphic Era Deemed University, Chief Guest Director of IIITM Gwalior and Immediate Past Chair of IEEE UP Section, Dr. S. N. Singh said that with rapidly growing computing capabilities, sustainability must become an integral part of technological development. He said that computing technologies should be developed in a way that enables better performance while consuming less energy and reducing their impact on the environment.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Narpinder Singh said that sustainability should not remain confined to ideas and policies, its true significance lies in making it a part of everyday life. Director General of the National Institute of Solar Energy Dr. Mohammad Rihan said that rising carbon emissions from industrial activities are a major cause of environmental damage. He stressed that decarbonisation of the energy system must be prioritised by reducing dependence on conventional energy sources and accelerating the transition towards renewable energy.

During the two days international conference, various expert lectures focused on topics including Machine Learning, Computational Technology, Sustainable Computing, Smart Grids, Cyber-Physical Systems, Internet of Things, Data Analytics, and other emerging technologies. Participants from nine countries attended the conference through both online and offline modes.

The international conference was organised by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Department of Electrical Engineering of Graphic Era Deemed University in collaboration with the IEEE UP Section and ANRF. Those present included Dean of Computing and International Affairs Dr. D. R. Gangodkar, Professor at NIT Karnataka Dr. Shashidhar Koolagudi, Head of the CSE Department Dr. Devesh Pratap Singh, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department Dr. P. Thakur, conveners Dr. Ankit Vishnoi, Dr. Ankit Bhatt and Dr. Varsha Mittal, along with faculty members and students.
