DST- Inspire Internship science camp starts at Graphic Era University

DST- Inspire Internship Science Camp started at Graphic Era University, here today. The students with outstanding grades will receive training on various topics related to science during the camp .

DST- Inspire Internship Science Camp is being organized at various locations all around the country. Graphic Era Deemed University is one of the selected host institutions. On the first of camp today, Vice Chancellor Dr. Narpinder Singh said that science students should have a clear understanding of fundamentals. This will help in facing challenges such as interviews in the future. He further said that for overall development and to build confidence students must participate in cultural activities. Dr. Narpinder Singh advised students to refrain from indulging in drugs related activities, respect teachers and parents, taking healthy diet and to work hard while staying humble.

Emeritus Professor Punjab University Prof. K. K. Bhasin said that the survival of humans depends on materials. From pencil to clothes, various types of materials are used in daily life. While giving the example of diamond he said that in order to become valuable like diamond, students should also undergo rigorous hard work. He gave information about many chemical reactions and performed experiment to demonstrate the characteristics of nitrated cotton.

Director of CSIR- National Physical Laboratory Prof. Venu Gopal Achanta while informing students about meta materials said that meta materials are used for high precision measurements. These materials are not present naturally and are artificially designed structures. He said that meta materials are used in improving telecommunications, increasing sensitivity and resolution of sensors, antennas and optical filters, etc.

In this camp students from 13 schools including Pt. Poornand Tiwari GIC, Jaspur, Nirmal Ashram, Rishikesh, APS, Almora, Ashram Vedic, Vikasnagar, GGIC, Kotdwar and APS, Birpur are participating in the five day long camp. Expert from Graphic Era Prof. Fateh Singh Gill trained students on the topic Diffraction of light.

This Science camp is being organized by Central Government’s Department of Science and Technology. Convener Prof. Arunima Nayak and Dr. Arun Kumar, along with Dr. Pratibha Naithani, Dr. Manu Pant, Dr. Anju Rani, teachers, PhD scholars and students were present in the camp.
