A heart rendering incident has occurred which point towards the plight of few people stranded in the villages of Uttarakhand where majority of the population from rural areas, due to variety of reasons have migrated. In a ghost village abandoned by the residents, a dead body of a sole survivor living in the village was found after seven days of his death as nobody lives in the village of the deceased.
“The dead body of Kundan Ram (45),was found in Rasyara village of Someshwar region of Almora district. The persons had died a week ago but nobody noticed him as nobody lives in the village,” said Gopal Datt Joshi, Circle Officer of Police of Someshwar.
Kundan Ram, a labourer, with a contractor of UPCL, was even without a mobile phone. His body was found only when some women saw it after seven days, while they had gone there for some work.
“The Rasyara village, where the body was found had once 35 families but due to migration only 12 families have left. “Out of which, the said locality where the dead body was found has no one left, “said a villager.
On January 2, this year, a 100 years old woman Jhoopa Devi, was cremated by SSB personnels in Tarigaon village at Indo-Nepal border in Pithoragarh as no youth were available in the village, to carry her body to the cremation ground.” We had to go to SSB camp to seek their help in carrying the body to the cremation ground near river Kali, as there were no youth available in the village to help as out of 37 families once lived in the village, only 12 have been left the village,” said Ramesh Chand, son of the deceased woman.
‘Pyre’, a film made by renowned film maker Vinok Kapri, that had won applause in various film festivals across the world, had the theme of migration from the hill villages on which the story evolved around an old couple who set their pyre when living as they fear that nobody was there in the village to cremate them.
