Chilling cold weather in April due to rain, snow

Pithoragarh, April 8

Incessant rains in lower region and moderate snowfall in higher Himalayan peaks of the district has turned the weather chilling cold despite in the summer month of April.

“We are feeling the winter months of January as the chilling cold has not stopped this year even after winter has gone and we are in summers,” said Puran Pandey, a tourists facility owner in Munsiyari.

“The temperature of Munsiyari town that used to be at 18 degree celsius as minimum and 28 degree celsius at maximum, is recorded at 1.0 degree minimum and 9 degree celsius at maximum on April 8,” said an ITBP source in Munsiyari.

” We used to witness haze these days in earlier years, today we have fog around on same season,” said Pandey.

“The erratic weather in high Himalayan region has also changed activities and regeneration processes of fauna in this reason. We used to witness frequent groups of honey bee in the first week of April, after the swarming process happed due to summer but that scene is totally absent these days this year,” said Puran Pandey.

According to district disaster management office sources the rains are higher in lower areas as it has rained 10 mm in and around Pithoragarh town.”The rains in higher reached is normal, it has caused no panic signal anywhere in the district,” said B.S. Mahar, District Disaster Management Officer of Pithoragarh.
