Pledge to preserve rich flora and fauna of Himalayas by ‘Wings Foundation’

On the occasion of ‘World Bio-diversity Day’, today, the environment lovers have pledged to save Himalayan region by preventing deforestation to save rare and endangered flora and fauna, which is known the world over.
“We have today pledged to promote community led preservation methods, preserving traditional ecological know how, sustainable eco-system and promoting plastic free Himalayan and preventing deforestation to save Himalayan traditional eco-system,” said Jagdish Bhatt, director of ;Wings Foundation’, an organisation working to save butterflies and eco-system of Himalayan from last two decades.
According to Bhatt, Himalayas that is world’s most important bio-diversity hot spot, is home to over 10000 species of flora and fauna including several endangered species. “The climate change patterns are accelerating glacial melting and disturbing fragile mountain eco-system of Himalayan by endangering it’s wildlife habitat and bio-diversity,” said Bhatt
According to Bhatt, main eco systems of this part of Himalayan needs to be preserved to save its bio- diversity including Thal kedar, Dwaj and Askot wild sanctuary systems as these are home to rare bio- diversity of Himalayan region.
“The Thakil region ( known as Thal kedar ) a 195 hectare wide 1500 to 2500 meters high sensitive eco -system houses of rare Thakil palm plant (trachycarpus takil) and near threatened fauna like Asian King vulture and Cinereous vulture and several other threatened flora and fauna species,”said Bhatt
“The 700 years old ecological generation bank of Dwaj region, is home to dense Bank, (Oak) Buransh and rich population of fern, mosses and lichens, that has been termed as last intact Himalayan temperate forest system, which needs to be protected and preserved,” said Bhatt.
The ‘Wings Foundation’ took a batch of school children to ecologically rich Chandak mountain to teach them what is bio-diversity and how forests consume Carbon dioxide to produce oxygen necessary for human existence.
