Kulagar bridge to be rebuilt by BRO

The Bailey bridge at Kulagar on the Dharchula-Gunji motor road along the India-China border, which was swept away on September 12 following heavy rains, will soon be reconstructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Dharchula SDM Ashish Joshi said.

“However, foot traffic to and from the higher Himalayan valleys has resumed, as the Army has constructed a track alongside the damaged bridge,” the SDM said.

The 170-metre-long Bailey bridge was first swept away on August 18 and was reconstructed thereafter. However, it was again washed away on September 12, disrupting vehicular traffic to the high Himalayan valleys of Darma, Vyas and Chaudans.

“The BRO has started collecting the components of the damaged Bailey bridge, and a new bridge will soon be installed at the site,” Joshi said.
