Three members of a family hospitalised after wasp attack in Pithoragarh village
Pithoragarh, Oct. 27
Three members of a family—a grandmother, her daughter and granddaughter—were admitted to Pithoragarh district hospital after being stung by a swarm of wasps in Bhateri village of the district. The women had gone to collect fodder when the incident occurred, forest department officials said.
“The wasps stung Bhagirathi Devi (50), her daughter Rekha (29) and her six-year-old granddaughter Mannat near a tree where they had gone to cut grass,” said Dinesh Joshi, Forest Range Officer of the Pithoragarh Forest Division.
“When the wasps attacked them, Rekha fled towards her home with her daughter in her arms. However, by the time she reached home, all three had been stung,” said Ganesh Singh Gobari, gram pradhan of Bhateri village.
Dr Rahul, Emergency Medical Officer at Pithoragarh District Hospital, said Rekha and her six-year-old daughter had been discharged after receiving the necessary medication, while Bhagirathi Devi remained admitted to the hospital.
The gram pradhan said four people had been stung by wasps in the same village a few weeks ago. Following that incident, the villagers had approached the Divisional Forest Officer’s (DFO) office, requesting the removal of wasp nests near the village.
“We had complained to the DFO’s office after four people were stung by wasps in the village a few weeks ago and requested the forest department to remove the nests near the village. However, no forest official has visited the area so far,” he alleged.
