Old tunnel found

Pithoragarh,  Feb 7                                              A 20 meters long tunnel, supposed to be of pre -mid Katyuri period of Uttarakhand historical era, was found near Gobrari village of
Pithoragarh recently.
” The tunnel seems to have been constructed from 9th to 12th century, that was  mid Katyuri era of kumaon history,”said Chandra Singh Chauhan, regional archaeological officer, Almora, who inspected the Tunnel today with his 4 members archiological team, today.
According to experts, the tunnel is 15 meters long at one side while 8 meters long at another side.”if deposited debris is removed, actual length of tunnel will come up.”said Chauhan 
The tunnel is situated at mid place surrounded by a river flowing around the hill.
“This is singing line formation Tunnel, and suitable for security guards posted in that area for security purpose.”said the regional archaeological officer.
According to Chauhan, such security  tunnels belonging to Kature era have also been discovered in Champawat, Almora and Nainital earlier.”We have find a tunnel in Kalyanpur village of Nainital, that was of double formation.”said Chauhan.
“The tunnel is full of loose debris, if that debris is removed, some windows like shafts might emergency, that might have been used to air to enter inside tunnel.”said Chauhan.
