Prem Singh Garbiyal (60), an Indian border trader who had travelled to Taklakot in Tibet for trade with China, was airlifted to a hospital in Haldwani for treatment after suffering a brain stroke on October 19.

According to administrative sources, Garbiyal suffered the stroke in his room at Taklakot, where he had gone to participate in cross-border trade.

“The trader was brought from Taklakot to Gunji on horseback after efforts were made to clear heavy snow from the route. The road from Taklakot to Lipulekh Pass remains completely covered with snow,” said Ashish Joshi, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Dharchula.

“We are grateful to the administration for arranging a helicopter and ensuring that he was airlifted to Haldwani without delay. We hope he recovers soon,” said Dharmendra Garbiyal, gram pradhan of Garbiyang village.
