Use of satellite phone arouse suspicion of presence of Amrit Pal Singh on Indo-Nepal border

Suspicion aroused amongst security agencies about the presence of fugitive Khalistan supporter Amrit Pal Singh after confirmation of a satellite phone signal, received in Pithoragarh town who might have used the satellite phone to cross over to neighbouring Nepal. However, Pithoragarh district police has denied the presence of use of satellite phone by runaway Amrit Pal Singh.
“We received the signals of a satellite phone in Pithoragarh town, three days ago, it might have been used by some mountain trekkers or hikers in the high altitude region,” said Lokeshwar Singh, Superintendent of Police ( SP), Pithoragarh.
The SP, said that he has not found any such evidence that Khalistani leader or his supporters might have used the satellite phone . The use of satellite phone is banned for general users and it is used only by security personnel at the border.
According to SP, special vigilance is being maintained by police in cooperation with Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB), a para-military force guarding the Indo-Nepal border in the district.”We are not only keeping a strict vigil on all suspension bridge at Indo- Nepal border but also tracking those illegal entrants from Nepal or vice versa, who use rubber tubes to cross the Kali river at several places on the 140 km long border with Nepal alone in the district,” said the SP. River kali forms the border between India and Nepal in Pithoragarh district.
