Uttarakhand witnessed its first-ever high-altitude marathon at the Adi Kailash Parikrama, marking a proud moment in celebration of the Silver Jubilee of the State’s Foundation Day on November 2. The event saw enthusiastic participation from nearly 700 runners representing 22 states, competing at an altitude of 14,700 feet, with the race concluding at Gunji (10,500 feet).
Three Cadets and one Master from Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun successfully completed the 10 km run held on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
Despite the sub-zero temperatures and snow-covered hills, participants showcased incredible endurance and determination. Escort teacher Mr. Sanjay Kumar remarked, “Overcoming these new challenges was a first for our cadets. Braving the cold winds and rough terrain wasn’t easy, but their spirit remained high throughout.”
Many participants described the route as the toughest marathon track in India.
Cadet Naveen Kumar Sharma shared his experience, saying, “This race was unforgettable. The cold winds, uneven paths, steep climbs, and sharp turns tested us at every step. But the desire to finish and the breathtaking beauty of Adi Kailash kept us going.”
The local community extended warm hospitality to all runners, preparing a traditional organic lunch that reflected the rich culture of the region. Their heartfelt welcome and support left an indelible impression on all participants.
To honor the cadets, RIMC Commandant Col Rahul Agarwal congratulated them for their hard work, endurance, and willpower in completing the challenging high-altitude marathon, symbolizing the spirit of Uttarakhand’s 25-year journey.
“Running on the sacred land of Adi Kailash proved to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, celebrating both human resilience and the natural grandeur of the Himalayas. The pioneers of RIMC successfully completed the sacred darshan of ‘Adi Kailash’ and ‘Om Parwat’ during their stay in Gunji — it was truly a remarkable and once-in-a-lifetime moment for the entire team,” said Sanjay Kumar, Team Leader.
