Boy saved from jaws of leopard by father in Pithoragarh

A 10 years old boy was rescued from the jaws of a man-eating leopard following the bravery of father to attack the leopard and snatch his son from certain death. The boy was injured in the attack last evening in Jibi village, near the district headquarter town, when the leopard attacked him while he was returning to his residence with his father after closing their shop.
“Prakash,(10),the injured boy is now out of danger and being treated in district hospital Pithoragarh,” said Pithoragarh DFO Ashutosh Singh.
According to the DFO the boy has received minor injuries on his body and face. “The boy was saved by his father, Man Singh, who ran after the leopard on listening screams of his son. Man Singh attacked the animal with a stick, he had in his hand, The leopard when attacked left the boy and fled to the forest,” said Dinesh Joshi, a range officer of Pithoragarh forest division.
A population of over two lakh residing inn district headquarter town of Pithoragarh is scared by frequent leopard attacks as these animals are seen in populated areas. Earlier, three days ago, a person was injured in a leopard attack but the animal was later caged by the forest department and sent to the rescue center at Almora. “We have formed teams to trace activities of leopards surrounding the town and running a campaign to make the residents aware against likely attacks by leopards, ” said Joshi, the range officer.
Meanwhile, a body of a leopard has been found in Maddhura forest near town. “The body of 6 years old leopard was 10 days old and it seems that the animal had died in a fight with another animal,” said the range officer. Later, the forest department created the animal after post mortem.
