‘Wings Foundation’ to hold Dragonfly festival in Pithoragarh from May 7

Pithoragarh, June 6
A weeklong dragonfly festival is being held by local nature lovers’ organisation, ‘Wings Foundation’ in cooperation with forest department at the district level from May 7 to 14, Jagdish Bhatt, director of ‘Wings Foundation’ informed.

The festival will have webinars, competitions and citizen science- based activities to make the people aware to preserve dragonflies during the seven days’ time of festival.

The festival is aimed at increasing efforts towards environmental preservation, increasing awareness towards bio- diversity preservation and make common people involved in the effort.” The people from bio diversity management committee, eco clubs, nature lovers, forest department employees and nature photographers from across the district and region will take part in it, ” said the organiser.

“Dragonflies are natural indicators of ecological purity of any place and quality of natural water sources besides indicating a healthy rapport of food security system from land to water,” said Jagdish Bhatt.

According to Bhatt till date a total of 32 species of dragonfly have been documented in the district during their last two such festivals as this is third dragonfly festival by the organisation. “Till date a total of 132 species of dragonflies have been found in the state of Uttarakhand,” said the ‘Wings Foundation’ director.
