Lockout of Dehradun CBI Office to protest slow CBI Investigation into Ankita Bhandari murder case on July 2

Dehradun, June 29

The ‘Ankita Nyay Yatra Sanyukt Sangharsh Manch’ has decided for a lockout and protest demonstration in front of the CBI office in Dehradun on July 2, 2026 against the slow pace and lack of clarity in the investigation of the case.

An online meeting of the ‘Ankita Nyay Yatra Sanyukt Sangharsh Manch’ featured a detailed discussion on the current status of the CBI investigation into the Ankita Bhandari murder case. It was noted during the meeting that despite approximately six months having passed since the case was transferred to the CBI, no concrete or visible progress has been made and this has led to deep disappointment and dissatisfaction among the victim’s family and the general public.

A key issue raised during the meeting was that the CBI has not yet even recorded the statements of Ankita Bhandari’s parents. Furthermore, there appears to be no clear progress in investigating the role of the alleged ‘VIPs’ whose involvement had been publicly questioned during the course of the case. Additionally, no concrete action has been taken regarding the demolition of the resort and the potential destruction of evidence. The Manch members stated that these circumstances raise serious questions regarding the direction and pace of the investigation.

It was also mentioned during the meeting that local CBI officials claim the investigation is being handled at the level of the CBI headquarters in Delhi. The ‘Ankita Nyay Yatra Sanyukt Sangharsh Manch’ held the view that since the incident occurred in Uttarakhand, the CBI machinery available within the state should also actively and effectively advance the investigation. Apprehensions were expressed that the persistent delays could compromise the course of justice.

The ‘Ankita Nyay Yatra Sanyukt Sangharsh Manch’ stated that a letter had been sent to the CBI Director about two weeks ago, demanding that the progress of the investigation be made public and that the pace of the probe be accelerated. A warning was also issued stating that if no satisfactory progress was observed within a stipulated timeframe, a democratic and peaceful protest—including a lockout—would be staged at the CBI office in Dehradun.

It was unanimously decided during the meeting that if this slow pace and lack of clarity in the investigation persist, a lockout and protest demonstration will be held at the CBI office in Dehradun on July 2, 2026. The forum appealed to the people of the state, social organizations, and justice-loving citizens to participate in this event and strengthen the campaign to secure justice for Ankita Bhandari.
