Strategy to be Finalised for a Nationwide Movement Against Power Sector Privatisation, Labour Codes and Anti-Farmer Policies

New Delhi, July 6

Shailendra Dubey, Chairman, All India Power Engineers’ Federation (AIPEF), today stated that, on the joint call of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and 10 Central Trade Unions, a massive National Conference of farmers, workers and employees will be held on 29 July 2026 at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. Representatives of farmers’ organisations, public sector enterprises, electricity employees, engineers, trade unions and various industrial organisations from across the country will participate in large numbers.

Shailendra Dubey said that the conference will deliberate on several critical national issues concerning farmers, workers, employees and the public sector. The major issues on the agenda include the proposed Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025, aimed at facilitating privatisation of the power sector, the accelerating privatisation of electricity distribution companies in several states including Uttar Pradesh, the four Labour Codes affecting workers’ rights, and the proposed Seed Bill. The conference is expected to evolve a common national strategy and decide the roadmap for a broad-based nationwide movement against these policies.

He further stated that thousands of representatives of farmers’ organisations under the banner of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and public sector employees’ organisations from different states will participate in the conference and strengthen the united struggle against privatisation, anti-labour policies and anti-farmer measures.

Shailendra Dubey recalled that on 12 February 2026, a historic nationwide strike was organised on the joint call of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, 10 Central Trade Unions, and the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE). Unfortunately, despite that massive mobilisation, the governments have continued to push policies favouring privatisation. On the contrary, the process of power sector privatisation has been further accelerated in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, leading to widespread resentment among electricity employees across the country.

He said that if the National Conference on 29 July resolves to launch a nationwide movement against power sector privatisation, anti-labour policies and anti-farmer laws, electricity engineers and employees across the country will participate with full commitment and unity.

Shailendra Dubey also pointed out that in Uttar Pradesh, electricity employees have been carrying on a peaceful and democratic movement against power sector privatisation for the last 586 days. During this period, thousands of employees have faced harassment, punitive actions and victimisation, creating deep resentment among the workforce. He emphasized that such repressive measures cannot suppress the united voice of electricity employees and engineers, who remain committed to protecting the public power sector and consumers’ interests.
