Pithoragarh, July 19
Indian traders, waiting for border trade from Lipulekh pass this year, will be allowed to enter into Tibetan mart at Purang (Taklakot) from August 1, this year, Ashish Joshi, SDM Dharchula and trade officer designated informed.
“We have received communication from Tibetan authorities in Taklakot today informing us that the Indian traders would be able to enter into Tibet from August 1, this year,” said the trade officer.
Over 28 Indian tribal traders, wanting to do border trade with China from Lipulekh pass, have been waiting near the pass for Chinese permission to let them enter into Tibet.
“The Tibetan authorities have communicated earlier that as they are busy in constructing shops and residential facilities for Indian traders and they will inform them as soon as these facilities get constructed.”said the trade officer.
The trade officer said that he is sending a list of goods being taken by Indian traders to Tibet required by Tibetan authorities.” We will send all information required by Chinese authorities in Tibet to get the trade become smooth and without any trouble,” he added.
Jeewan Singh Rongkali, president of Bharat Cheen Seemant Vyapar Sangthan at Dharchula said that late permission to traders to enter into Tibet will result into losses to Indian traders.” The trade runs only till October, Tibetan do not come to purchase in September due to their domestic reasons, The sales would have been on peak during the month of July and we have lost. We would not be able to sell even 0 per cent of our goods till the trade season ends in October, “said a displeased Rongkali.
He further said that whereas the traders wanted to clear their goods which had been rotting in Tibetan godowns since 2019, besides fresh goods this year but the chances of making profits are slim.
Over 113 traders and same number of helpers have been issued trade passes by trade officer’s office at Dharchula this year.
