Road accidents: A major roadblock in nation building

JB Institute of Technology (JBIT), Dehradun, organized an inspiring and interactive session on “Road Safety” for first-year students as part of its induction programme. The session aimed to create awareness among young students about responsible road behaviour, traffic discipline, and the importance of preventing road traffic injuries.

The session was addressed by renowned orthopaedic and spine surgeon and Padma Shri Dr. B. K. S. Sanjay, President, AIIMS Guwahati, along with Dr. Gaurav Sanjay. Drawing upon their professional experience, the speakers highlighted the serious physical, emotional, social, and economic consequences of road accidents.

Dr. B. K. S. Sanjay emphasized that road safety is not merely about following traffic rules but is a collective responsibility and a commitment to protecting human life. He urged students to wear helmets and seat belts, avoid overspeeding, distracted driving and mobile phone use while driving, and strictly follow traffic regulations.

He encouraged the students to become “Road Safety Ambassadors” and carry the message of safe road behaviour to their families, friends, and communities. He stressed that responsible behaviour by every road user can help prevent avoidable deaths, injuries, and disabilities.

Dr. Gaurav Sanjay interacted with the students and highlighted the importance of discipline, awareness, alertness, and responsible citizenship while using the road. The interactive session provided practical insights and encouraged students to make road safety an integral part of their daily lives.

The programme was an important component of JBIT’s induction and holistic development initiative, aimed at nurturing socially responsible, disciplined, and safety-conscious young professionals.
