Prof. (Dr.) Bhupendra Kumar Singh Sanjay, Padma Shri awardee, eminent orthopaedic surgeon, distinguished academician and President of AIIMS Guwahati, was felicitated by the Newtown Sarbojanin Durgotsav Samiti 2026 for his exemplary contributions to medicine, healthcare and humanitarian service.

The honour, conferred during Sharad Utsav and Durga Puja 2026, recognises his contributions to orthopaedic surgery, trauma care and complex bone tumour management. Through free medical camps, disability prevention initiatives and road-safety awareness programmes, Prof. Sanjay has consistently worked towards improving healthcare access and preventing avoidable suffering, particularly among underprivileged communities.

During his Kolkata visit, Prof. Sanjay also met Revered Swami Nityarupananda Ji, Secretary of Ramakrishna Vivekananda Mission, at the Mission’s headquarters on 18 October 2026. He presented his books to Swamiji and participated in a spiritually enriching interaction on the principles of action and reaction and the interconnectedness of human life.

Emphasising the timeless philosophy, “Service to man is service to God,” Swamiji highlighted the spiritual significance of serving humanity. The message closely aligns with Prof. Sanjay’s lifelong commitment to compassionate medical care and social welfare.

Renowned poet Shiv Kumar Bilgrami  accompanied Prof. Sanjay and facilitated the meeting, serving as its sutradhar. Swamiji drew a meaningful parallel between Shri Bilgrami Ji’s role and that of Devarshi Narad Muni, the divine messenger known for connecting people and facilitating significant encounters.  Swamiji invited Prof. Sanjay to visit the Mission again, and he gladly assured him of his return. The felicitation and spiritual interaction together highlighted the enduring connection between professional excellence, spiritual values and selfless service to humanity.
