First suspected cases of Omnicron virus in Doon

The first suspected case of Omnicron virus has been reported from Dehradun city today. A couple who are senior citizens have been found to be Covid positive. The couple had recently returned from New Delhi where three of their relatives who had come from Kuwait were reportedly infected with Omnicron. The couple had come in contact with those infected relatives.
Dr. Manoj Upreti, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dehradun confirmed that the couple had recently returned from New Delhi where they were in contact with three of their relatives reportedly suffering from Omnicron virus. He said that their samples for genome sequencing has been sent to Government Doon Medical College, Virology laboratory at Patelnagar. The confirmation of Omnicron virus could be confirmed after the genome sequencing report, he said. The health department has ordered to seal the apartment on Rajpur road where the couple is staying.
Meanwhile, Suryakant Dhasmana, Vice-president of Uttarakhand Congress today went to the Doon Hospital to get a first hand knowledge about the preparations being made by the health authorities to fight the threat of Omnicron virus. Dr.N.S.Khatri, Deputy Chief medical Superintendent of the hospital informed that newer oxygen plants have been installed capable of producing 2000 litres of oxygen per minute. The capacity of the ICU has also been increased and nine ICUs and 40 oxygen beds have been kept ready for children also.
Suryakant Dhasmana said that the state had suffered immensely in the previous Covid -19 wave and urged the authorities to ensure that adequate medical facilities are provided to the patients in case of any outbreak. The Congress leader was the first to visit the Doon Hospital during the last wave of Covid-19 to check the facilities but was quarantined by the state government for visiting the Covid-19 wards. “I had only gone to check the preparations but the state government in its’ wisdom decided to home quarantine me which I followed. My concern is that the state government should be fully prepared in case of any outbreak,” he added.
