Jammu lawyers on warpath against JMC notice to Bar Association Chief

Jammu, Sept 5

Lawyers belonging to the J&K High Court Bar Association  are on a war path. They are agitating against the slapping of a demolition notice to its President M.K. Bhardwaj, Senior Advocate who is spearheading the ongoing agitation of the Association at Jammu demanding the construction of a multi-storey complex in the premises of the High Court for housing various judicial forums including CAT, AFT and various other Tribunals. The lawyers in their meeting held on Thursday last  branded the JMC’s Notice as a notice to Bar Association, Jammu and termed it as a tool to get the ongoing strike fizzled out.

here was a lot of anger amongst the young Lawyers who extended full solidarity with Bar President. They reiterated their demand for multi-storey complex and stressed upon the J&K administration to come out in writing as a token of acceptance of their demands.

Similar views were expressed in the general body meeting of the Bar Association where after threadbare discussions, the members declined to call off the agitation on the verbal assurance and it was decided that the agitation will go on till the demands are not conceded in writing by the J&K administration. The Lawyers further said that they have no issues with the Hon’ble High Court as the agitation is against J&K administration and the moment the demands are met or conceded in black & white, the Bar will reconsider its decision and the work can be resumed.

It was further divulged during the meeting that JMC on 27-08-2022 had issued an illegal notice to the Bar President with regard to his Chamber’s building situated at Channi Himmat, Jammu which has been constructed on a Housing Board Plot owned by the President of the Bar Association, Jammu.

The members condemned the JMC authorities for muscle flexing in order to harass and victimize the President of the Bar Association, Jammu so that the ongoing agitation is brought to an end. The members further highlighted that since Jammu Bandh’s Call had been given for 29th August, 2022 and in order to thwart the said Bandh, the administration adopted a novel method by issuing the demolition notice through Jammu Municipal Corporation on august 27, 2022. The Lawyers castigated the malafide and arbitrary action of JMC taken to harass and victimize an eminent Senior Lawyer of J&K who is heading the Jammu Bar.

After deliberating upon the issue, the J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu resolved to convene a Meeting of the General House on September 5th, 2022 (Monday) to chalk out future course of action particularly in the light of the stubborn attitude of the J&K administration and the latest move of JMC to harass the President of the Bar.
