Villagers suffering due to closed roads in Pithoragarh

B.D.Kasniyal                                        Pithoragarh, Aug 12                                  Over 80 villagers of Bansbagar, Malon,Kota, villages of Munsiyari and Laspa, Vyans and Chaundas and Darma valleys, are suffering for daily basic needs as the village  roads to these areas are closed for the last 33 or 30 days.

“While the administration attends to open NH roads immediately after these get closed due to debris following rains, the villages roads are never attended to clear resulting into months long difficulties for these poor villagers.”said Sher Singh, a villager of Kota village of Munsiyari sub division.

Sher Singh said that he had to take his mother for treatment to  pithoragarh district headquarter but due to closed roads he could not do so.”I, will have to see my mother deying without treatment in my cut off village.”says Sher Singh 

The motor road from Bansbagar State Highway to Kota area is closed from last 30 days, while  another village road, from Bansbagar to Malon is closed from last 33 days.”My taxi got struck on Bansbagar to Malone road from last one month, I have only source of livelihood, in absence of livelihood,my children’s have started suffering from essentials.”said Dhan singh, a taxi ow2wner of  Malone village.

These close roads are among those 15 Village roads that are closed in Munsiyari sub division of the district, for last one month 

Over 70 villagers, who used to take their persons from Banks situated at Nachni  market could not go to take pension due to closure of roads.”My family is dependent on my pension only, but due to closure of road I, could not go to Nachni to take my pension from last one month.”said Kamlesh Singh, an ex serviceman in Malon village of Munsiyari sub division 

In Dharchula sub division, over 12 village roads closed from last one month have not been opened yet due to that the villagers of Pangla, Sobla,and Himkhola, are facing problems of daily needs.”In absence of village roads, the villagers are risking their lives by traveling to market places from tough slippery and  hilly roads.”said Shalu Datal, a resident of Dharchula town.

According to DDMO Pithoragarh, the villages roads to ,Kalika, Khumti, Chirkila,Jamku, Bansbagar, Kota pandrahapala, Musori kantha, Hunera Daura, Barmo,Madkot, Tawaghat, Thanidhar, Sobla, village roads are closed in the district from over 20 or more days.”The  border road from Dharchula to Tawaghat has shown a fragile tendency of continuation from last 2 months, it has remained closed for most of time after been opened slightly at several times.”Said Bhupendra singh Mahar, DDMO Pithoragarh.
