Kumaoni dishes await PM Modi during his proposed visit to Pithoragarh

For  the proposed visit and one night stay of Prime Minister Narendra Modi  to Pithoragarh district on October 11 and 12, 2023 , the local administration has shortlisted 15 preparations of traditional Kumaoni cuisine, to be made part of meal of the Prime Minister, if permission for such be granted.

“To finalise list of Kumaoni dishes to be made part of Prime Minister’s meal, we have last week held a Kumaoni cuisine competition in Vikash Bhawan, where ‘Aaganbari’ workers have prepared several local dishes, out of which we have shortlisted 15 dishes of locally produced grains,” said Reena Joshi, District Magistrate of Pithoragarh.

The Kumaoni dishes, selected included, Bhatt ki Curkani, Gahat ke Dubke, Kale bhat ka Bhatiya, Mandua ki Roti, Mandua ka cake, Mandua ki barfi, Madua ka roll, Jhangore ki Kheer, Mandua ke Laddu, Bhang and Darim ki Chatni, Aaloo Change ki Barfi, Bajre ke Laddu, Makka and kele ke pakode.”The final selection of dishes, be presented, will be decided by the authorities responsible for Prime Minister’s meal,” said Dr Nirmal Basera, Child Development Programe Officer (CDPO) of the district, who organised the competition of ‘Aaganbari’ workers for the purpose.

The sources said that all the cuisines will be prepared from the material locally grown organic grains.” If we succeed in including any of local dishes in the cuisine of Prime Minister, it would give new boost to local cuisines,” said Dr Basera.
