A Temple in Ayodhya
A Temple in Ayodhya
By Rashme Sehgal
Odd shapes abound
A demon sprouting wings
A fleshy apsara without a chin
A naked woman
Buried beneath a mound
Is she held captive
For her unexpected strength
Adorned by graces
No creature can encompass
Or is she now
A victim of her times
Used in vendetta
To destroy a thousand crowns.

(This poem was written a few days
after Babri Masjid was brought down.
I was witness to it being broken down
Stone by stone though I had no idea then
it would prove a turning point in our history. )
