The motor road from Thal to tourist town of Munsiyari, in high Himalayan region of Pithoragarh district, opened after 15 days today. The opening of road facilitated 14 trucks laden with essential commodities which were stuck on the way to reach the town amidst welcome by locals.
Meanwhile, a 34 year old woman died in Shilling village of Bangapani sub-division of the district, after she was hit by shooting boulders while gone to collect grass for her animals.
” Tulsi Devi, the gram pradhan, gave the information about the incident and rescue team sent by the administration reached the ditch and extracted her body with the help of villagers,” said Chandra Prakash, Tehsildar of Bangapani sub-division..
“After the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) personnel opened the road to Munisiyari, the transportation on the route has become normal,” said Vatan Gupta, Tehsildar of Munsiyari.
According to Gupta, the vehicles, laden with fuel, iron cement and vegetables, were stuck at Vanik near Kalamuni temple on July 16.” This will give relief to traders as well as villagers of interior areas of Munsiyari town as they were hit by rising prices following closure of the main motor route to Munsiyari,” said Puran Pandey, a resident of Munsiyari.
According to District Disaster Management Office (DDMO), Pithoragarh, a total of 24 motor roads including 22 village roads, one border road and one National highway are still closed in the district.
