Member of Niti Ayog and Chancellor of Graphic Era Deemed University Dr. V. K. Saraswat called upon researchers and teachers to work towards making the country a product nation. Dr. Saraswat who was addressing Graphic Era’s Research Excellence Award ceremony as a chief guest said that for new innovations and researchers a better eco system is very important.
In the ceremony, faculty members who did outstanding research works, new innovations and projects in Graphic Era Deemed University and Graphic Era Hill University, were awarded Rs. 1.5 crore.
Dr. Saraswat recalling his own experiences as a scientist said that at the beginning of his career in the year 1965 neither research papers were written nor a eco system for research existed. While pursuing M.Tech in the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, he understood research and discovered why research is required for new innovations and how research is done and how important it was for the country.
Member of Niti Ayog and Chancellor of Graphic Era Dr. Saraswat said that our goal is to make the country a product nation. He further said that medical and even most of the equipments used in research are being imported from other countries while a small country like Vietnam has made a strong hold in the global market with its single brand. “We will have to create our own identity in the international market by making the quality of our products better. For this, research has to be utilised and connected with the products,” he added .
Dr. Saraswat said that in today’s digital world, technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Drone technology are available and we should continue to take them forward. “For this, it is important to have a good eco-system of research in the private sector. Along with this, we need to focus on developing better equipments than the imported ones so that we can make the country a product nation<” he said.
He agreed that Graphic Era University has an amazing eco system of research. He said that by giving Rs. 1.5 crore as awards for researches and innovations, providing advanced technologies and facilities to researchers and discoveries new innovations one after the other is a solid proof of this eco- system. He expressed his gratitude towards Graphic Era for this leadership.
At the ceremony, Graphic Era Group of Institutions, Chairman Dr. Kamal Ghanshala said that these awards are given to honor and encourage the efforts made for research and new discoveries. New research and discoveries of teachers prove to be new gifts for the country and the world. New discoveries are being made to diagnose typhoid. Graphic Era’s new kits are making the treatment of this disease easier all over the world and similarly new discoveries and preparing new products based on them is an important task towards making the country a product nation. In the award function Graphic Era Deemed University Vice Chancellor Dr. Narpinder Singh said that this year the teachers of the university have done research and published 8000 papers in the field and have obtained 1200 published patents. Graphic Era Hill University Vice Chancellor Dr.Sanjay Jasola expressed his gratitude.
In the Research Excellence Award 2024 ceremony, 128 teachers of Graphic Era Deemed University and 41 teachers of Graphic Era Hill University were honored with awards. Which included Dr. Vineet Kumar of Food Science and Technology with Rs. 7,32,435, Rs 5,42,922 to Dr Mohit Bajaj of Electrical Department, Rs 4,96,650 to Dr Manoj Diwakar of Computer Science, Dr. Deshbandhu Singh of Mechanical Engineering got an award of Rs. 4,42,002, Dr. Mohammad Wajid of Computer Science got an award of Rs. 4,16,100, Dr. Wariz Pawar of Electronic Engineering got an award of Rs. 3,92,733.
Other award recipients included Dr. Manu Sharma, Dr. Arunima Nair, Dr. Prabhakar Semwal, Dr. Udham Singh, Dr. Prince Vimal and Dr. Akshay Kumar. UCOST Director General Dr. Durgesh Pant and Graphic Era Deemed University’s Pro Chancellor Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma were present as special guests at the ceremony. The event was conducted by Dr. MP Singh.
