Health services in Uttarakhand affected as doctors observe strike seeking justice for Kolkata victim

Dehradun,August 17

Health services were affected in Uttarakhand as doctors both in government as well as private sector joined the 24-hour strike in protest against the rape and murder of a Kolkata doctor. Outpatient services were suspended but emergency services continued. The strike was coordinated by the Uttarakhand Provincial Medical Health Services Union, with a virtual meeting condemning the incident and calling for improved safety measures for medical staff. Several other political and social organisations also held protests and sit-in against the gruesome incident and sought exemplary punishment for the culprits.

In protest against the heinous crime, a peaceful candle march was held and tributes were  paid to the victim doctor by Sanjay Orthopedic, Spine and Maternity Centre, Jakhan, Dehradun .

Hospital Manager Orthopedic and Spine Surgeon, Padma Shri Dr. B. K. S. Sanjay said that the medical world is very saddened to see such violent incidents. Condemning this heinous incident, Dr. Sanjay said that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure the safety of doctors. “Rape is a heinous crime not only for an individual but for the entire society. I believe that the reason behind such crimes is not human lust but hatred towards the victim,” he said.

Gynecologist and Obstetrician Dr. Sujata Sanjay, honored by the President, said that such a gruesome and heinous brutal rape and murder is a soul-stirring incident. Those who commit such misdeeds should receive the harshest punishment for which we all will have to come together and fight to get justice so that this does not happen to anyone else in future. She urged all working women to stay away from such people and keep themselves alert. Orthopedic and spine surgeon Dr. Gaurav Sanjay expressed his heartfelt condolences to the victim doctor.
