Graphic Era organizes National Workshop

Dehradun, Sept 30

Experts emphasized on solar energy as an excellent alternative for solving energy crisis and addressing environmental issues in the country. They also shared views on challenges in the field of solar energy at a national workshop on “National Interventions for Promoting Solar Farming”, organized at Graphic Era Deemed University, here today.

In the inaugural session of this five day workshop today, chief guest Director General of National Solar Energy Federation of India Deepak Gupta said that connecting farming with solar energy, could reduce the electricity consumption in villages and towns. For this the focus should be on technological advancements, skilled workforce and implementing better policies. He said that adopting clean energy like solar energy will be helpful in addressing environmental issues like climate change. A small initiative like installing solar panels at homes can play a crucial role in spreading awareness about it. He also highlighted rooftop solar scheme and agro- plants.

In the workshop, Director General of National Institute of Solar Energy, New Delhi Dr. Mohammad Rehan encouraged the students to promote sustainability by reducing energy consumption and carbon emission. Dr. Rehan said that for addressing various environmental issues it is essential to make changes in one’s lifestyle first. He also emphasized on the need for using electricity responsibly, promoting green energy, adopting green energy and raising awareness among people about these.

Vice Chancellor of Graphic Era Deemed University Dr. Narpinder Singh said that solar energy is an excellent choice for fighting the issue of environmental problems. It helps in tackling climate change, reducing air and water pollution through minimum carbon emission. He said that there are many challenges in the field of solar energy that need to be addressed like installation of solar panel, developing strong infrastructure, regular maintenance and implementation of policies. He urged the researchers to contribute in solving these challenges.

A souvenir was launched in the workshop. On this occasion, a MoU was signed between Graphic Era Deemed University and National Institute of Solar Energy to promote skills and training related to solar energy industry. The National Workshop was organized by Graphic Era Deemed University’s Centre of Excellence for Clean Energy and Graphic Era Hill University’s School of Agriculture in collaboration with National Institute of Solar Energy, National Solar Energy Federation of India and GIZ, New Delhi. Convener Dr. B. S. Negi, Organizing Secretary Dean (Projects) Prof. Pradeep Kumar Sharma, HoDs, researchers, scientists, academicians, policy makers, faculty members and students were also present in the workshop.
