UPCL turn 232 sub-stations into hi-tech

Dehradun , Dec 11

Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) in the era of digitization, has embarked on a mission to strengthen the power distribution system through various schemes with the support  and efforts of the Central Government as well as the Uttarkhand  Government,  under the guidance of the Uttarakhand  Secretary (Energy) Meenakshi Sundram.

Through this modernization, emphasis is being laid on collecting online data, analyzing it and taking immediate decisions and implementing them. Under the RDSS scheme, Uttarakhand Power Corporation Ltd. is working on the establishment of the Real Time Data Acquistition System (RT-DASS) at 215 sub-stations across the state. The RT-DAS system will be installed at all the sub-stations across the state which have areas with a population of less than 25 thousand. Till date, under this scheme, the system has been installed at a total of 126 sub-stations in the state, which mainly includes areas like Ranipokhari, Jollygrant, Tyuni, Laltappad, Selaqui, Chipalghat, Raiwala and Chakisain, and the work of installing the RT-DAS system at the remaining sub-stations will be completed in a phased manner in the coming months.

Along with this, in the past also, UPCL has been using the RT-DAS  system at 106 sub-stations in 66 cities across the state under the IPDS scheme. Due to which, at present, a total of 232 sub-stations of UPCL have become hi-tech. Anil Kumar Yada, Managing Director informed that after successful implementation of RT-DAS system, all sub-stations will be monitored on real time basis, which will be quite successful in reducing the power interruption time. Apart from this, the possibility of power interruption in emergency can also be avoided by maintaining the breakers on time on the basis of the number of breakers installed in the sub-stations. The information collected through RT-DAS is transmitted on real time basis to the National Power portal  and to the nodal agency (M/s PFC). RT-DAS  has been integrated with the call center, under which Customer Service Representative (CSR) gets information about feeder outage, which helps in providing accurate information about power interruption to the consumers.
