Motor bridge on Indo-Nepal border at Charchum to be operational by March 2025

The first international motor bridge, linking India with Nepal on this part of Indo-Nepal border, being constructed on river Kali which forms the border between the two countries, at the border village of Charchum in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, will be ready for vehicular transportation between the two countries, by March 2025, according to officials involved in construction of the bridge.

“The 110 meters span double lane motor bridge linking India and Nepal has been completed at Charchum. Only abetment protection work and approach road of 150 meters linking the main road at Nepal side and 7 meters long on the inside India, has to be constructed. After this construction, the bridge will be operational,” said Sanjay Chauhan, and executive engineer of PWD, Askot division.

Pithoragarh District Magistrate on December 16, took a meeting of concerned agencies of the bridge and instructed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Dharchula to provide land to PWD, SSB, Custom department, forest and police for construction of their establishments at this international entry point.”We have also instructed the concerned departments to remove the obstacles  on way to the bridge on Indian side and construct extra barrier and a gate at the bridge,” said Vinod Goswami, District Magistrate, Pithoragarh.

According to the official,  the Charchum bridge will be second motor bridge in Uttarakhand state at Indo-Nepal border after the bridge at Banbasa in Champawat district.” This will boost trade between two countries and give relief to people from both the countries living in remote part on the Indo-Nepal border,” said the DM.
